American Toyota fans had the opportunity of seeing the new 2016 Toyota Auris presented as the Scion iM concept at the LA Auto show a few months ago, but the Toyota company will not leave its European fans, who call the Auris their own, out of the action. The Japanese automaker will be unveiling a revised version for the European market at this years Geneva Motor Show. The Auris model is basically a Corolla with a liftgate at the back, or if you wish, the European counterpart to what was once known as the Matrix model. It will be available in hatchback and Touring Sports wagon body styles, and with petrol, diesel or hybrid engine options.
Even though the current Auris has been already highly equipped and greatly designed, the 2016 model will still get some upgrades. The exterior will be mildly refreshed with a couple of changes, most changes will be applied to the front and rear end, which is typical for mid-cycle refreshments. Headlights, as well as the taillights will be redesigned, and some new exterior colors are expected to be included in the offer. The Front end will, also, be slightly modernized, with some minor changes on the fascia and grille. In a combination with more sweptback headlights, the overall result of this facelift will give the new Auris a more aggressive appearance.
As far as the inside is concerned, changes in trims and features are expected, while the overall design should stay the way it is, and wait for a suitable redesign. But still, the upgrades in materials, and new color schemes, will make a huge difference and restyle the inside look. The new Auris will be available in 4 trim levels, the base Active, Icon, Icon Plus and Excel.
Engine and MPG
Definitely the biggest advantage of the new Auris is its wide engine lineup. It will have 4 four options, 3 petrol engines and 1 diesel.
-The base engine will be the 1.3-liter VVT-i 4-cylinder with 99 hp and 96 lb-ft of torque. Average fuel economy in combined ride is 51.4 mpg.
-The second petrol engine will be the 1.6-liter DOHC, naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 127 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque. The combined fuel economy numbers are 49.6 mpg.
-The third engine will be the 1.8-liter VVT-i with 134 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, which is the base engine for the 2016 Toyota Auris Hybrid. It will deliver 78.5 mpg in combined range.
-The Diesel engine will be the 1.4-liter D4-D capable of delivering 88 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. This engine is the most economical one, and offers 74.3 mpg.
Both manual and automatic gearbox will be available, while the FWD will be standard.
