The Lexus RX has been on the market for more than just a few years and it managed to evolve from a body on frame crossover to a full unibody construction which not only gives it better on-road performance but it also allows it to have more interior room while having less weight. The 2015 Lexus RX400h is the hybrid model of the range which has been introduced a few years back as an alternative for the diesel powered European luxury crossovers. It has a few advantages as well as some disadvantages over the diesel and it has mostly been appreciated by the North American market.
2015 Lexus RX400h Price
The older model used a 3.3 liter V6 while the current one uses a 3.5 liter V6. The RX400h is supposed to use either an improved 3.5 liter V6 or a new engine which we’ll discuss a bit later. The release date for this new model has been set to be in the second or third quarter of 2015 at a base price of around 47.000 dollars which makes it quite pricey for its class.
As far as we know, the next model is going to be a brand new generation which will use a similar platform as before but the extended use of aluminum will reduce the weight even further.
Just like before, the 2015 Lexus RX400h hybrid powertrain will be something unique in its class. Firstly, the current 3.5 liter V6 is likely to be changed to a newly developed 2 liter turbocharged inline 4. This new engine is said to be around 20% more fuel efficient all by itself and when it will be coupled to the new electric motors, the average fuel consumption will drop even further. The car is expected to get at least 35 MPG on average which would be the best fuel consumption in its class. As far as we know, Lexus and Toyota worked closely with Tesla in order to develop the new electric motors and battery pack. The total power for it should be around 350 to 380 horsepower, with the petrol engine supplying more than 280 horsepower and almost 320 lb-ft of torque.
A CVT gearbox will continue to be used but this time it will be tweaked specifically for this engine. The four wheel drive system is achieved with the help of three electric motors, two in the front and one in the back which give it a really unique feel. There are two limited slip differentials, one in the front and one in the back, so it shouldn’t have any problems in rough terrain.
On the interior, the 2015 Lexus RX400h will evolve over the current generation in order to offer more luxury and better equipment than before. Standard features include an 8.1 inch satellite navigation system and a 9 speaker audio system, electric seats as well as leather upholstery. A triple zone automatic climate control system is also available. Options include an infotainment system for the rear seats, an electric sunroof, premium leather upholstery as well as a fifteen speaker audio system with a dedicated subwoofer.
2015 Lexus RX400h exterior will also be changed for the better. The front end of the car will receive LED daytime running lights, HID lights for the low-beams, LED tail lights as well as a set of 19 inch wheels as standard. The front and rear bumpers will be changed in order to improve the aerodynamic coefficient and also to give it a more aggressive look. The biggest change of the car will be the tail gate which now uses a completely different design than before, very similar to the more expensive Lexus SUVs. There will be a set of 20 inch rims available as an option as well as a dedicated pack which will include a unique color and set of rims as well as privacy glass.
